Senior Director, Risk Management & Safety

Anna Belote is the Senior Director of Risk Management and Safety. She is responsible for directing a cross-functional team of laboratory and operational safety professionals who provide regulatory compliance readiness, environmental health and safety training and education and workforce injury management initiatives.

Prior to working in higher education, Anna worked in the healthcare field for over 20 years. Most notably she served as the Director of Safety and Emergency Preparedness for Parkview Health, which is the largest employer in Northeast Indiana. She holds a Master’s Degree in business administration and
healthcare management and is a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt. A lifelong learner and teacher, Anna was co-facilitator of a national consortium of healthcare and hospital entities focused on improving workforce injury prevention strategies.

She is a graduate of Leadership Fort Wayne and the Parkview Health Management System programs. Anna has served as the president of the Anthony Wayne Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals and was on the board of directors for the Greater Fort Wayne Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She also served for 4 years as a co-chair for the Northeast Indiana YWCA’s largest fundraiser, the YWCA Circle Event, which promotes awareness and raises funds that support domestic violence programs. She is currently on the Indiana Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society.


Randy Crist

Assistant Director, Operations Safety

Randy Crist assumed the role of Assistant Director of Safety in 2022 and has been a member of the Campus Safety and University Operations division since 2011. In this position, he leads a team of safety professionals that develop, implement, and oversee safety, training, and injury management programs across the University. Primarily focused on the University’s operational units, the safety team closely partners with departments in the President, Provost, and Executive Vice President divisions.

Randy is a 1991 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a retired Army officer. Prior to joining the Campus Safety team, he spent over 20 years leading army units. His final assignment brought him to Notre Dame as the Professor or Military Science where he guided the University’s Army ROTC program for three years.

Randy and his wife are the proud parents of 5 children and currently reside in Niles, Michigan.


Eric Doland

Associate Director, Compliance Assurance

Eric Doland is the Associate Director of Compliance Assurance with Risk Management and Safety. He is responsible for maintaining and supporting the University’s training, inspection, and incident reporting and management systems, as well as all departmental audit programs, data and statistics, and overall regulatory compliance requirements. Eric’s other responsibilities include oversight of the department’s website and budget. Eric has served in this role for the past eight years. Prior, he served as a Laboratory Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in his first two years at the University.

Prior to working in higher education, Eric worked in manufacturing for more than 10 years. Most notably he served as the Safety Manager for Manchester Tank and Equipment, during which time he led his facility to occupational safety and health excellence by being recognized as a Star site in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). He also previously served as a co-chair to the OSHA Council with the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce, which promotes safety and health in the workplace through a professional forum and networking with the goal of exchanging knowledge, expertise and best practices.

Eric earned his master of business administration degree from Indiana University South Bend and bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Ball State University. He also holds a certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

Eric and his wife, Pom, are the proud parents of two children, with whom they love to travel around the world.


Erin Hafner

Assistant Director, Environment & Health

Erin Hafner is the Assistant Director of Environmental and Health within the office of Risk Management and Safety and is responsible for Environmental Compliance, Occupational Health, and Industrial Hygiene. In this role, Erin has created programs for Hazardous Waste, UST, SPCC, Refrigerants, Radiofrequency/Microwave Energy and Universal Waste. She partners with departments across campus to ensure compliance with State and Federal environmental and health regulations as well as helping to
ensure the health and safety of the campus community.

Erin has held several positions over the last 20 years within the Office of Risk Management and Safety
and the Office of Sustainability at the University of Notre Dame and is a member of the current
Principles of Leadership cohort. As a founding member of the Office of Sustainability, Erin developed
programs around gameday recycling, solar and geothermal installations, green construction, and water
and energy conservation.

Erin holds both Bachelor and Master degrees from Indiana University and is a
Certified Environmental Systems Manager.


Amanda Snyder

Assistant Director, Laboratory Safety

Amanda Snyder is the Assistant Director of Laboratory Safety within the office of Risk Management and Safety and is responsible for Laboratory, Chemical, and Biological Safety. Amanda is a voting member of both the Institutional Biosafety Committee and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. She partners with departments, faculty, staff, and students in laboratories to help ensure their safety as well as compliance with State and Federal laboratory safety regulations.

Amanda joined Risk Management and Safety in December of 2022. Prior to working at the University of Notre Dame, Amanda was involved in biological and laboratory safety for a number of years. She managed the Biosafety program at Indiana University, Bloomington. Amanda has held the positions of Assistant Biological Safety Officer at Indiana University, Indianapolis as well as Microbiologist at the Indiana Department of Health Laboratories in Indianapolis, IN.

Amanda obtained her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from Albion College and a Masters of Public Health in Environmental Health Sciences, Toxicology from the University of Michigan.




TJ Whittenhall

Radiation Safety Officer

TJ Whittenhall is the University’s Radiation Safety Officer and Laser Safety Officer. He manages the radiation and laser safety programs, keeping them in compliance with various state and federal regulations.

TJ came to the University of Notre Dame in February 2023 after spending over 20 years at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. At Northwestern, he was the Assistant Radiation Safety Officer and Laser Safety Officer managing the laser safety program for both the Chicago and Evanston campuses and providing oversight of the radiation safety program for the Evanston campus. He also provided assistance to the Radiation Safety Officer when implanting new programs including the launch of lab management software in 2016.

TJ earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Illinois. He is a Certified Laser Safety Officer through the Board of Laser Safety and was a presenter at the 2016 Department of Energy’s Laser Safety Officer workshop.
