Travel Assistance Services

Assistance Services are offered through AIG by calling the provided toll free number (877) 244-6871 or international collect (715) 346-0859.  As the name implies, these are services provided by the insurance company to their clients.  However, any cost arising from the subsequent provision of a third party service or product is not covered by the insurance. For example, if your passport is stolen, you may call for assistance and the provider will advise how to replace it; the cost of replacing the document is not covered by the insurance.

The cost of subsequent third party services for cases requiring emergency medical evacuation, security evacuation, or repatriation of remains is covered by the insurance policy.  However, the insurance company must be notified and pre-approve all care and transport.

International Travel Resources

AIG provides web-based safety and security resources.  These resources may be accessed:  travelguard.secure.force.com
University Insurance Policy Code:  9113229

Notre Dame International also provides a host of safety and security resources including travel warnings and alerts.

International Travel

It is highly recommended that Graduate Students register international travel through the Travel Registry. In the event of an incident, emergency or emergent situation, registration provides Notre Dame International with the ability to contact travelers to confirm safety, address needs or arrange for transport.

Graduate Students should confirm if existing health insurance will provide coverage in the country being traveled. Many plans contain higher deductibles, co-payments and a requirement for up-front payment to health providers when traveling abroad.

Supplemental health insurance is available for Notre Dame sponsored travel by enrolling in the international health and evacuation insurance plan through GeoBlue.

Notre Dame sponsored travel is an international travel activity that:

  • Is funded in any part by the University of Notre Dame
  • Receives academic credit from the University, or is done under the auspices of Notre Dame in which the traveler represents the University
Car Rental Insurance

Collision damage insured (sometimes referred to as CDW or LDW), personal accident insurance, and liability insurance should be declined when traveling within the United States; if elected, such insurance is not reimbursable.

However, when traveling outside the United States, this coverage should be selected and is reimbursable.

The Car Rental Insurance policy is outlined in the University of Notre Dame Travel Policy

Questions regarding the AIG Travel Accident Policy, the GeoBlue Program or Car Rental Insurance should be directed to the Risk Management and Safety Department:  bdavey@nd.edu
